Tonight was our monthly stated meeting for Ormus Grotto and I am happy to say we had a new member join in Kendall Lawson who received the short form ceremonial. We also had a couple extra folks present tonight and a couple indicated they might start travelling with me or at least to the State Zone Conferences.

We had a great crowd today taking up two full rows of tables and after lunch and a few administrative items we had a speaker talk to us about Inland in Dayton. Specifically most of it was about the impact they had of WW II and the products they produced. It was very entertaining and enlightening.

Today DeMolay Legion of Honor members from the area met at the Linder Center at the Ohio Masonic home to celebrate DeMolay and break bread with active DeMolays. There were over 30 in attendance including 3 Active DeMolays. We were happy to be able to donate $50 to each Chapter int he District. After dinner everyone gave a little description of how they became a DeMolay and a little of their most memorable moment,

Tonight was the Grand Masters Reception and we had a nice dinner followed by a short program. To start the program off this evening we had something different which was a 75 year service plaque. (The picture I got could have been better) What was unique was that they also indicated that he was the first High Priest of Palmyra Chapter #235. The Second Masonic District also presented a check to fully fund the Masonic Veterans Memorial being erected at the VA Cemetery which was one of the Grand Masters programs this year.

Tonight was a rare occurrence for me as I was able to sit on the sidelines. We now are getting back-ups for parts and tonight my Nebuchadnezzar backup did the part instead of me. We had around 15 PIMs present and all but one part was done by our council as the long time person who did the part recently determined he needed to step aside. Since we have many who have done a major part for over 30 years, the work was done in a very good manner even with a few newcomers who are the backups and we are now alternating years, so every part can be covered with top notch degree work.

Tonight was my Lodge's Inspection in the Entered Apprentice Degree. We had 37 of our members present (including 14 PMs) and 37 visitors for a nice turnout. We also had in attendance PGM Doug Kaylor, Senior Grand Deacon Paul Weglage and State House Rep Scott Lipps. The officers did a really nice job on the degree work (per the DDGM).

I attended the Past Master Inspection in Twinsburg Ohio this evening and their was a good crowd present including Grand Chaplain Jack Worchester, GM1V Robert Nilsen, PGHP Jeff Addis and GHP Keith Green. As the DDGHP indicated they did a great job of the degree work this evening for 3 candidates. At the end of the meeting our GHP gave a short story ... I think it had to do with fish. The weather going home, however, was less than great.

This morning I got up at 5:30am to head to Bucyrus Chapter for a 150th Anniversary Reconsecration of the Chapter. This is the home Chapter for Alan Bacon and John Clime, PGC. Luckily the weather was nice and the water in the area which had closed a few roads had receded. Almost all the Grand Officers were able to make it this morning.

Tonight I went to our practice for the Jesters degree work coming up later in the month. We had some food before hand and got right in the practice which was nice since as soon as finish tonight I am headed to Knoxville for a couple days with my daughter and to give her some of her birthday gifts.

I attend my stated chapter meeting this evening and we had almost 20 in attendance despite no ritual work. We also had refreshments after the meeting and during the meeting discussed the upcoming Inspections and District events and made arrangements to attend them all.

I attended my Hi12 Club meeting today. We meet twice a month at lunch, eat and usually have a speaker. Today was no difference as we had a speaker for the agency which helps out folks with disabilities. It definitely opened my eyes to some of the challenges they are facing in the agency.

Tonight was my Conclave's regular meeting and we met in Upper Sandusky at the Steer Barn restaurant with the ladies. We had wanted to eat here for a while and the food didn't disappoint as it was more like an old time dining experience as the methods they used to cook are those that were used in days past instead of the current bland methods used. They also had to point out it was my birthday today.

I decided tonight to head to Garrettsville for the inspection of Silvercreek chapter in the 17th District. This Chapter has the unique situation of meeting over top of a bar with a Jukebox. Not to disappoint it played once during the Inspection. This is the Grand King Ross Black's home district and he was of course in attendance. The Chapter did the Past Master degree which was nice since it started to snow during the Inspection and they were calling for several inches of snow. It made for some slower driving on the way home but I made home safely.

We have 3 Chapter's which meet at the Dayton Temple and each helps out the other with degree work. Tonight the 3 got together to perform the work in the Most Excellent Master degree. Since I am the Grand Scribe and we have that position do one of the inspections this week, this was mine to Inspect. They did a good gob working together to get the job accomplished. The High Priest for the evening, Dan Frye, had been very sick but was able to do his part and even sing some of the appropriate parts tonight.

Tonight was Unity Chapter's Inspection in the Past Master degree. I am a dual member of this chapter as we have tried many different unique things to keep this Chapter going. Tonight I'm happy to say with a little help we passed or inspection. Our HP is in his 80's and many years back was High Priest of another Chapter in Dayton but became a dual member since he has difficulty of driving at night. Since we meet during the day, it allowed him to once again come to Chapter. I just hope if I make it to 80 that I'm able to do a ritual part as well as he did this evening.

This is York Rite Week in Dayton and tonight was the Mark Master Degree. We had 6 candidates and a good turnout of visitors. This is Past Grand Commander Burch Zehner's home Chapter. We also had PGHP George Shell and Steve Duncan in attendance. There were 3 Chapters with 5 or more present and Victory won the travelling award with 11 present followed by Trinity with 9.

Today in Warren Ohio I started out the day at the Mark Master Degree performed by Mahoning Chapter and was followed up with Ashlar Chapter portraying the Past Master degree on 7 candidates. Both Degrees were done very nicely and I then had to get on the road to head to Lyndhurst Ohio for a reconsecration ceremony.

Tonight I attended the Grotto in Pittsburgh PA as I finished up my first round of 26 Grotto's in the Ohio Association. It might seem strange but we have 3 Grotto's in Pennsylvania and 1 in West Virginia which are part of the Ohio Association. This is also the home Grotto of one of the Grand Line officers of the Grotto. I was able to get my first roadrunner award and will now start working on my second one.
Thursday, February 22, 2018
Tonight was Palmyra's inspection in the Most Excellent Mast degree in Brookville. While this is within my District it is also the home Chapter of our DDGHP Claude Siebel and the late MEC Jerry Crawford. Doris Crawford was in attendance and presented them with Jerry's Jewel and Apron which they plan to display next to a picture of MEC Crawford. The inspection was good with some help from folks around the District. In addition MEC Shell and MEC Duncan were also in attendance.

Tonight was Inspection in the Most Excellent Master Degree for Cunningham Chapter in Lakewood near Cleveland in the 16th District. They had 6 candidates who received the degree. EC Robert Hager, Grand Generalisimo Grand Commandery, was also present along with Robert Neilson GM1V. Luckily the weather (temperature stayed at 33 or above on the ride hone to minimize ice on the highways but several times I had to slow down on the way home as the roads were definitely slick.
Sunday, February 18, 2018
Tonight the District Officers, DEOs and DDGHPs got together to make sure the plans are in order for the activities in the District for the rest of the year. Luckily everyone had their reports ready and the meeting progressed quickly so we were able to get done in just about an hour. It is great working with folks who take getting their assigned tasks done seriously.

Today the Scottish Rite Valleys of Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati went together to put on a program at Dayton. Each did a different Scottish Rite Degree. In addition, the DeMolay did the 7 Preceptor parts. It was a nice, well organized, event which moved right along. The DeMolay also held their State Ritual Competition in the Lodge portion of the building.

Today my wife and I along with the General Chairman for my year REC Greg Clatterbuck and his wife met with the Marriott in Dayton to discuss the possibility of having a Grand Family meeting and Grand High Priest Reception at the facility. We had looked at another place in the past which was very nice but since it is in a more populated business area had a little higher prices. I am hoping to get some feedback from them by next week and may be able to get the location locked down very soon.
Tonight Pam and I went down to support the Past Potentates of Antioch as they held a Fish Fry. Almost all the profits from the event will in some measure come back to support the building Antioch meets within. They already had a good crowd when we had to leave so that I could get to the Council Inspection on time tonight.
Tonight was the Inspection for my Council in Miamisburg. We had several dignitaries in attendance including PGM MIke Himes, PGC Richard Holcombe, GPCW Graver Manning and MIGM Dave Mourer. In addition from our Council we had Grand Council officers Bobbie Campbell and Mike Smith. I was proud of the work they did this evening in the Select Master Degree.
Thursday, February 15, 2018
Tonight was inspection at Farmersville in my district. We had MEC George Shell and MEC Steve Duncan in attendance. (This is MEC Shell's home Chapter). I was also proud of my Chapter Trinity #44 as we had 16 present (including 4 of the 5 candidates) which was more total companions than the Chapter being inspected. They did a very nice job in the Royal Arch Degree and I would have expected no less as they are one of the strongest Chapters in the District.

Well on day 3 of our fund raiser it started out rainy and looked like it was going to be a miserable day. It did however clear up and the first show of the day parking end up with the rain stopping. For the second show later in the day we didn't have rain but it started to get much colder. But over all not much to complain about as in three days of work we are now done fund raising for the year.
